‘Community The Movie’: Peacock Orders Feature Film Of Beloved NBC Series, But Donald Glover May Not Be Included

It looks like “six seasons and a movie” is finally coming true.  Peacock is giving “Community” fans what they’ve clamored for since the NBC/Yahoo! Screen series ended in 2015: a full-length movie that wraps up the show.

Community: The Movie” brings back original series stars Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash, and Jeong for the show’s feature film finale. Peacock on the rights to the project in a competitive situation and acquire (non-exclusively) the full series library in the lead-up to the movie. And the best news of all? Series creator Dan Harmon returns to helm the film, with Andrew Guest also back to co-write the script.

“Community” ran for five seasons on NBC before it moved to Yahoo! Screen for its sixth and final season. It was one of the first shows to jump to a digital streamer during its 100+ episode run. The show follows the antics on a Colorado community college campus.

Also of note: series regulars Chevy Chase, Donald Glover, and Yvette Nicole Brown are not mentioned in the press release announcing the film and presumably aren’t in the film? if that’s indeed, the case, that’s not a huge surprise, given the exits of Glover and Brown’s characters and Chase’s conflicts with Harmon that led to him not being in the final season.

“‘Six seasons and a movie’ started out as a cheeky line from “Community” ’s early seasons and quickly ignited a passionate fan movement for this iconic, hilarious and cool (cool, cool) NBC comedy,” said Susan Rovner, Chairman, Entertainment Content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “We’re incredibly grateful that 15 years later, we are able to deliver fans this promised movie and can’t wait to get to work with Dan Harmon, Andrew Guest, Joel McHale, Sony and our partners at UTV to continue this epic comedy for Peacock audiences.”

No word on when “Community: The Movie” will hit Peacock, but expect it in the latter half of next year.
