Hailee Steinfeld has risen quite the rise to stardom over the past decade. She earned an Oscar nomination at age 14 for “True Grit” and has yet to stop. Her rise includes large-budget action films (“Bumblebee“), comedies (“Pitch Perfect 2“), and some things in-between (“The Edge of Seventeen“). This November, Steinfeld will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Clint Barton’s (Jeremy Renner) trainee in “Hawkeye.”

But Steinfeld wraps up another major stepping stone in her television career when “Hawkeye” hits Disney+. That, of course, comes in the third and final season of Alena Smith’s series “Dickinson.” The series returns for one last ride through a romanticized look at history with Emily Dickinson (Steinfeld) fighting the gender norms of 19th Century America.
This time, Dickinson not only has to contend with her family but also the raging Civil War. Toby Huss (“King of the Hill“), Adrian Blake Enscoe (“Hello Again“), Anna Baryshnikov (“Superior Donuts“), Ella Hunt (“Anna and the Apocalypse“), Chinaza Uche (“Fear the Walking Dead“), Jane Krakowski (“30 Rock“), and Wiz Khalifa all return for the final season. Also, Ziwe (“Ziwe“) joins the show both as a writer and as the character “Sojourner Truth.” Billy Eichner (“Billy on the Street“) and Chloe Fineman (“Saturday Night Live“) also join the fray as poets Walt Whitman and Sylvia Plath, respectively.
The Civil War provides an interesting backdrop for “Dickinson.” Smith is taking the show in a gravely serious direction, as Emily will have to test herself as an artist during such a dark period. Such creates great potential for darkly humorous scenes and dramatic moments throughout the season. Not to mention the war should only elevate the tensions created between Emily and her family.
The first three episodes of “Dickinson” will hit Apple TV+ on November 5th, and ensuing episodes coming out weekly after that. The finale lands on December 24th. You can check out the full trailer here:
