'The Bad Batch': Disney+ To Debut New, Dave Filoni-Produced 'Star Wars' Animated Series In 2021

Let’s be honest for a minute—the “Star Wars” franchise is at a crossroads and there’s really no way of knowing what the future holds for the Lucasfilm moneymaker on the big screen. But we do know one thing—fans sure do love what Dave Filoni is doing with the animated “Star Wars” universe. And Disney/Lucasfilm is well aware, as the studio moves ahead with yet another Filoni-produced series, “The Bad Batch.”

According to Deadline, Disney+ has ordered a season of a brand-new “Star Wars” animated series titled ‘The Bad Batch.’ The series is said to pick up from the events of the recently-ended ‘The Clone Wars’ and feature the title characters, an elite squad of clones with unique abilities that allow them to be a formidable force in the unclear future. And as mentioned above, Filoni is on board to steer the new animated ship as the executive producer alongside producers such as Athena Portillo, Brad Rau, Jennifer Corbett, Carrie Beck, and Josh Rimes.

In addition to her producing duties, Corbett is also serving as head writer for the show. If you’re an avid fan of the “Star Wars” animated universe, you’re likely familiar with the names above, as each and every one of them has worked with Filoni on series in the past.

With the live-action future of “Star Wars” unclear, at this time, it’s obvious that Lucasfilm and Disney are banking on the small screen efforts to carry the torch for the galaxy far, far away for the foreseeable future. And for fans, having another Filoni-produced series is never a bad thing. No release date has been set for ‘The Bad Batch,’ but Disney+ is expected to launch the series in 2021.
