The shoot may have been long and at times unpredictable, but it looks like Leonardo DiCaprio and Jamie Foxx got on just fine making “Django Unchained.” So fine in fact, they want to work together again, although this time with characters on the same side.
Warner Bros’ has snapped up the rights to Craig Zahler‘s forthcoming novel “Mean Business On North Ganson Street,” as a vehicle to re-team Calvin Candie and Django. And the material sounds pretty good. Should it all come together, DiCaprio would play a detective who believes that his wife is actually a hooker, and disappeared on him with the money she made in her line of work. After an incident in the squad room gets him assigned to the crime ridden Victory, Missouri, he teams with a hot-headed detective (Foxx) with his own troubles after being demoted for brutalizing a suspect, and the pair try to find out who’s leaving cops dead, execution style.
Sounds like a gritty as hell genre exercise, but as we witnessed in ‘Django,’ the pair share a pretty great chemistry on screen together. That said, this is still a ways off. A script still needs to come in (Zahler himself will write it) and a director needs to be found. Foxx is currently busy on his SyFy horror project and then he shoots “Annie” this fall, while DiCaprio — if he sticks to his plan — is taking a bit of a breather from acting (though he will likely have to stump for “The Wolf Of Wall Street” this fall).
So we’ll see. As awesome as this sounds, lots can happen and we’ll just have to wait to see if all the stars align for this to get made. As for the book, it doesn’t have a publisher yet, though following this news, that will probably be sorted out soon enough. [Deadline]
