Exclusive: Trailer For ‘How To Grow A Band’ A Documentary On Grammy-Winning Chris Thile & Punch Brothers

nullNavigating and maintaining a career in music is a perilous journey, one where paying your dues doesn't always lead to a big break. But for 26-year-old Chris Thile, he's already reached some pretty big career highs, nabbing a couple of Grammys for both his solo work and his efforts with the platinum-selling Nickel Creek. But in a move that surprised fans in 2006, Nickel Creek went on indefinite hiatus forcing Thile to reasses and in many ways, start over from scratch.

What happens from there is chronicled in the upcoming documentary, "How To Grow A Band," from director Mark Meatto. The film follows Thile as he begins anew with bold plans to write a 45-minute elegy to a failed relationship to be played by a bluegrass quintent, and eventually, the birth and formation of his next group, Punch Brothers. Whether you're a fan or not, this exclusive trailer for "How To Grow A Band" shows an intriguing look behind the scenes at the decisions and compromises between art and commerce that must be made by an artist both looking to evolve and survive.

The film opens on April 13th in New York, but if you're curious to hear what Thile's new endeavor sounds like, The Punch Brothers are featured on "The Hunger Games" soundtrack.null
