Okay, we’ve seen the hair and the cleavage, and had a decent little chuckle and smirk, but what does the final shape of David O. Russell‘s “American Hustle” actually look like? Well, a trailer has now arrived and this looks like an assured, entertaining piece of pop culture time travel.
Probably paying a pretty little penny to use Led Zeppelin‘s “Good Times, Bad Times,” the first spot offers little in the way of dialogue (are we seeing a new trend following Ben Stiller‘s “The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty” promo?) but gives a great sense of the setting. Yep, there’s a lot glitz, glam, skin and a bit of mischievousness going on here, with the lead quintet — Christian Bale, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner and Amy Adams — looking like they’re having a ball.
As you know, the film is based on/inspired by the true story of the ABSCAM operation in which a financial con artist (Bale) and his mistress/partner in crime (Adams) who are forced to work with an out of control federal agent (Cooper) to turn the tables on other con artists, mobsters and politicians. The supporting cast is ace — Louis C.K., Jennifer Lawrence, Alessandro Nivola, Elisabeth Rohm, Dawn Olivieri, Jack Huston, Michael Pena and Robert De Niro — and the December 25th release date can’t come soon enough.
