I don’t know why we didn’t expect this to happen. The writing was on the wall the whole time. Alas, now we know Lady Gaga is going to release a new album, “Harlequin,” on September 27 that ties into the release of her upcoming film, “Joker: Folie à Deux.”
According to Gaga herself, the upcoming “Harlequin” is an album meant to accompany the release of “Joker: Folie à Deux.” It’s inspired by the film but doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a soundtrack. She even released a quick video on social media that presumably highlights one of songs that will appear on the album.
Again, this should have been something everyone predicted. “Joker: Folie à Deux” casts Lady Gaga as Harleen “Lee” Quinzel. It’s a film that allows not only for Gaga to be singing throughout, but she is often joined by Joaquin Phoenix. Basically, it’s a bit of a jukebox musical and it would make sense for Gaga to come out with a soundtrack to the film (or “companion album,” as it has been described as).
“Harlequin” marks the first album from Gaga since 2020’s “Chromatica.” And when you look at the timeline of each of her album releases, it checks out that now would be a good time for “Harlequin.” It typically takes three or four years for an album.
As mentioned, “Harlequin is expected to arrive on September 27. You can watch the tease below:
