‘Hustlers’ Star Jennifer Lopez Says “Let Everyone Down A Little Bit” After Being Snubbed For An Oscar

Every year, there are snubs and surprises when the Oscar nominations are announced. And though the conversation about snubs this year seemed to revolve around the lack of female representation in the Best Director category, Jennifer Lopez was also one of the biggest snubs for her lack of nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category for “Hustlers.” And according to a new interview, the actress was really disappointed by the snub, not just because it sucks for her but also because of her “team.”

Speaking to Oprah Winfrey at the 2020 Vision: Your Life In Focus Tour (via Deadline), the conversation turned to her role in the film “Hustlers” and her lack of Oscar nomination, when it seemed like the nom was a sure thing.

“I was sad, I was a little sad because there was a lot of buildup to it,” said Lopez. “There were so many articles, I got so many good notices – more than ever in my career – and there was a lot of: ‘She’s going to get nominated for an Oscar, it’s going to happen, if it doesn’t you’re crazy.’ I’m reading all the articles going: ‘Oh my god, could this happen?’ And then it didn’t and I was like: ‘Ouch.’ It was a little bit of a letdown.”

She added, “Also, I felt like my whole team – most of my team has been with me for years, 20, 25 years – and I think they had a lot of hopes on that and they wanted it too, so I felt like I let everyone down a little bit.”

Obviously, Lopez probably wouldn’t have won the award, as Laura Dern was the huge favorite, no matter who her category mates were. However, it was expected she’d land the Academy Award nomination after scoring recognition in the category from folks like the Critics Choice Awards, Golden Globes, Gotham Awards, Spirit Awards, and a ton of other organizations.

Lopez is clearly still at the top of her game, as far as acting, so we’ll just have to wait and see when she shows up on the big screen again and if she has even more awards season discussion in her future.
