Jeremy Renner’s ‘Hawkeye’ Series Was Originally Meant To Be A Movie

With Disney+ finally launching next week, audiences are about to see the first live-action “Star Wars” project ever. But many people are wondering when we’ll finally see all the Marvel Studios projects that were announced with the streaming service. While the announced MCU projects are all TV shows based on characters from the movies, it appears one of them was originally meant to be a motion picture before turning into a TV show, “Hawkeye” starring Jeremy Renner.

According to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, not only are all the shows necessary to understand the future of the MCU, but apparently he originally meant for the “Hawkeye” show to be a standalone movie, just like the one “Black Widow” is getting.

A report by Bloomberg says that Feige apparently started pitching the new projects to the actors as recently as last year, as he told Tom Hiddleston, Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany about the “Loki” and “WandaVision” TV shows during the “Avengers: Infinity War” premiere. The article also mentions that Feige was nervous about pitching the TV show to Jeremy Renner, as the actor already had a deal with Marvel to star in a movie based on Hawkeye, but Feige then decided that just one show about a masked vigilante that shoots arrows isn’t enough, and he wanted something that could fill the void soon to be left by “Arrow.” Feige told Bloomberg that Renner turned out to be fine with the change. “He totally got it and said, ‘Let’s do it,’ ” Feige said.

Though it is uncertain at this time what the show will be about, “Hawkeye” will see Jeremy Renner reprising his role as Clint Barton, and introduce a protege in the form of Kate Bishops. In the comics, Bishops takes up the mantle of Hawkeye after Barton, and becomes a member of the Young Avengers. “Hawkeye” will premiere Fall 2021 on Disney+.
