Jessica Biel Promotes Facebook Watch Series (But Admits No One Knows What Facebook Watch Is) Amid Anti-Vaxxer Controversy

Jessica Biel has had a whirlwind 24 hours. After a fairly benign, if not unintentionally funny, post about her new show “Limetown,” the actress was at the center of a social media roasting due to her apparent lobbying for an anti-vaccination bill in California. Not sure this is the type of publicity Biel was going for when she asked everyone to watch her new streaming show this fall.

Yesterday, the actress posted a tongue-in-cheek Instagram post about her upcoming series “Limetown,” which will debut in October on Facebook Watch.

“My new show #Limetown premieres Oct 16th on @FacebookWatch. I know that’s far away, but it gives you enough time to figure out what Facebook Watch is,” wrote the actress.

Obviously, she was being a bit silly, poking fun at the fact that Facebook Watch isn’t the most popular of streaming platforms, regardless of what the company would like you to believe. And sure, that might have been the type of post that would get picked up and spread around social media, just based on the fact that you rarely see a big star openly make fun of the fact that they’re on a series that is on a platform that is so inconsequential. It’s self-deprecating in a way that is rare among actors and even rarer when it’s a bit unintentional.

But again, this goofy post isn’t the reason that everyone was talking about Biel on social media. You see, the actress was photographed lobbying with people that are staunchly anti-vaccinations, while supporting a bill that is being pushed by people who think that infant vaccinations are somehow hurting children. By and large, the celebrities that support anti-vaxxer agendas are ridiculed. And Biel was no exception. However, the actress went back to social media to attempt to put some water on this growing fire.

“I am not against vaccinations — I support children getting vaccinations and I also support families having the right to make educated medical decisions for their children alongside their physicians,” wrote Biel.

The actress goes on to give a personal reason why she supports the bill, which would allow parents and doctors to decide whether or not a child should get vaccinations. She says that some children need an exemption from vaccinations due to medical conditions.

Regardless, social media had a field day with her activism that seemingly is supported by tons of pseudo-science folks. Not a great look for someone that is hoping that people will go out of their way to watch your new show on a platform that you readily admit is obscure and difficult to find.

Oh well.

If you’re able to find Facebook Watch, you can check out “Limetown” on October 16.
