**Slight spoilers for this week’s “Loki” below**
Marvel Studios, especially in recent years, has come under fire for not exploring the sexuality of characters in the MCU. And Kevin Feige has said that he wants to introduce more LGBTQ characters in projects coming up. Well, if you’ve been watching “Loki,” there was a revelation in the newest episode that adds layers to Tom Hiddleston’s character and actually confirms something that has been part of the comic book for years.
In the most recent episode of “Loki” on Disney+, the character has a conversation with a multiversal version of himself, dubbed Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino). And in that dialogue, it is revealed that Hiddleston’s version of the character is, without any ambiguity, a queer character, admitting to having both male and female lovers over the years.
And in a tweet from director Kate Herron, she explained how Loki’s bisexuality was a pivotal part of the character that she wanted to define in the new series from the beginning.
She tweeted, “From the moment I joined [‘Loki’], it was very important to me, and my goal, to acknowledge Loki was bisexual. It is a part of who he is and who I am too. I know this is a small step but I’m happy, and heart is so full, to say that this is now Canon in [the MCU].”
Obviously, if you’re a fan of the comics that inspire the Marvel Cinematic Universe, you know that Loki has been openly bisexual for years and has served as a bit of an LGBTQ icon in the Marvel Universe. So, it’s not without precedence to say that Loki is bisexual. However, considering just how the MCU has treated sexuality, by not showing many relationships outside of the hetero norm, it is a pretty big step to have one of the most popular characters, who has been on screen for a decade, acknowledge being bisexual.
