Looks like Kevin Costner is following up his performance as Pa Kent in “Man Of Steel” with another patriarch role, only this time as the focal point in the Guillermo Del Toro-produced thriller “Midnight Delivery.” According to THR, Costner is in talks to star as a father who must become a drug mule in order to save his estranged daughter from a Colombian gang. The del Toro and Neil Cross scripted draft had Costner saving his son but we suppose the plot’s similarity to this year’s Dwayne Johnson-vehicle “Snitch” forced the change. We’re not sure exactly when the film will end up appearing in front of cameras since TV helmer Brian Kirk jumped ship for the Keanu Reeves-starring “Passengers.” Perhaps co-writer Cross, himself a veteran of TV with BBC’s “Luther,” can step in?
It’s been a long time since he’s worked outside the studio tentpole world but with “Chef,” Jon Favreau is seemingly returning to his small-scale roots and now he’s bringing the project to a full simmer as he adds (via Variety) Dustin Hoffman to his already talented ensemble. Written and directed by Favreau, the comedy follows Favreau as a chef who loses his job, starts up a food truck, rediscovers his culinary talent and reunites with his loved ones. Hoffman joins Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sofia Vergara, John Leguizamo and Bobby Cannavale.
Originally set to start shooting this past spring, the Aubrey Plaza and John C. Reilly-starring horror comedy “Life After Beth”—about a young man who tries to continue his relationship with his girlfriend when she returns from the dead—finally started production last week with two new cast members. According to THR, Dane DeHaan and Paul Reiser have joined the Jeff Baena (“I Heart Huckabees”) written & directed film as Plaza’s boyfriend and his father, respectively. Solid cast all around so we’re curious in seeing how Baena handles his helming duties after paying his dues as a screenwriter.
