‘Beef’: ‘Minari’ Director Lee Isaac Chung Will Reportedly Reteam With Steven Yeun For Netflix/A24’s Series

2021 has been a great year for Steven Yeun. The former “Walking Dead” actor has continued his quest to choose better and better projects, especially this year, with “Minari” earning raves and awards recognition, then later with “Invincible,” the acclaimed Amazon animated series. Now, it would appear 2022 might actually be even bigger for the actor. And part of that reason is that he’s likely going to reteam with his “Minari” filmmaker, Lee Isaac Chung, on one of the most anticipated series in development, “Beef.”

According to a report from Discussing Film, Lee Isaac Chung has signed on to direct the pilot episode of the upcoming Netflix/A24 series, “Beef.” The report said that the filmmaker would direct “at least” the first episode, leaving the door open for more episodes from Chung, which is great news, indeed.

As mentioned, Chung is probably best known for his breakout drama, “Minari,” which is one of the best films of the last year and was one of the most awarded during the previous awards season. So, just the idea that Chung and Yeun would reteam, even for just one episode of a TV series, is an exciting prospect.

“Beef” was announced in March and stars Yeun alongside Ali Wong. The series is said to follow the fallout of a road rage incident involving a couple, who let the situation continuously affect their lives and mental health. It’s definitely a departure from the more solemn and beautiful “Minari,” but nonetheless interesting.

Filming is expected to begin in early 2022. This would mean there’s a strong chance we could see “Beef” debut on the streaming service towards the end of next year.
