While Marvel’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” hasn’t exactly blown doors down in the ratings department for ABC, it hasn’t stopped the studio from developing more projects for the small screen. Their next TV project, “Agent Carter,” has excited ABC’s executives so much that they’re foregoing the pilot altogether and may be letting it go straight to series.
“Agent Carter,” of course, stars Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter. The project started out as a “One-Shot,” originally featured on the “Iron Man 3” Blu-ray, and has since taken on a life of its own. For some time, there had been a great deal of talk regarding a possible “Agent Carter” series, but a greenlight on the show’s pilot never came and the project’s fate seemed to be up in the air. Now, it seems ABC has big plans for “Agent Carter” after all, hoping it can fill in time when the second season of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” goes on a hiatus.
Surprisingly, we still have not officially heard whether or not “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” will actually be renewed for a second season, but surely this news means that it’s more or less a done deal. ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ seems to be heading on the right path, thanks to how the events in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” have impacted the show. But have these recent episodes bolstered ABC’s confidence? We’re likely to find out soon. [Deadline]
