Everyone’s wondered what The Safdie Brothers would do next after “Uncut Gems” in 2019. Well, around this time last year, news started to swirl that the Safdies would team up with Adam Sandler again on their next project. Then Netflix joined the project in last October. And now there’s another party circling the project, too, and it’s last person most moviegoers would expect…
Deadline reports that Megan Thee Stallion (née Megan Pete) is in talks to star alongside Sandler in the Safdies’ upcoming film for Netflix. That’s a bit of a surprise, considering the movie deals with the world of sports memorabilia. Nothing else is known about the movie right now, though, except that the Safdies direct a produce a script of their own: no title, no plot details, nothing. So, Megan Thee Stallion, the music star, working in that world? Hey, it could work, and the rapper has more acting credits than most people realize.
Pete’s acting work is mainly on TV, with roles on “She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, Starz‘s “P-Valley,” and NBC‘s “Good Girls.” She also makes her feature debut soon in “Borat” director Larry Charles‘ latest film, “F***cking Identical Twins,” which A24 bills as a raunchy, subversive take on the “The Parent Trap.” Nathan Lane, Bowen Yang, and Megan Mullally also star in that movie, which doesn’t have a release date yet.
Beyond that, Megan Thee Stallion is a rap music icon, with three Grammys, four AMAs, two MTV Video Music Awards, and six BET Awards to her name. Time Magazine put her on their 100 Most Influential People list in 2020. Music collaborators for Stallion include Beyoncé, Cardi B, Doja Cat, Dua Lipa, Lil Nas C, Lil Baby, and Maroon 5, among others.
