‘Frankenstein’: Jacob Elordi “Intrigued” & “Anxious” To See Audience React To His Makeup-Heavy Creature, Talks Research Tips From Guillermo Del Toro

Over the weekend, we finally got a first-look trailer for Guillermo del Toro‘s “Frankenstein,” a gothic horror tale based on the legendary Mary Shelley novel that the filmmaker has been trying to get completed for 25 years. In the pic, we see minor glimpses of actor Jacob Elordi (who replaced Andrew Garfield) as Frankenstein’s monster.

Speaking with Deadline to promote his WWII P.O.W. drama miniseries “The Narrow Road to the Deep North,” Elordi revealed how he feels about the film inching close to release and mentioned how del Toro spoke to him about absorbing other films that adapted the iconic sci-fi horror tale as part of his research for the role.

“I mean, I think Frankenstein is an epic fairy tale. I genuinely don’t think I’ve seen something like this. It’s beautiful. I’m quite anxious for people to see it. I’m intrigued for everybody to see the creature for the first time. It’s really, really beautiful work by Mike Hill,” Elordi said of his excitement to see the audience react to his version of the creature.

“I remember I went to Guillermo, and I said, ‘Which version of the book should I read?’ He sent me all this stuff. And then I was like, ‘And do you think I should watch the movies?’ And he looked at me like I was crazy. He was like, ‘They’re just movies. They can’t f***ing hurt you.’ I remember him saying that. Then I just dove in and realized that nothing could bog me down or get in my way, because I was so excited by the process.”

Hill, who Elordi referenced, is an impressive prosthetics special effects artist who previously worked with del Toro on the Oscar-winning flick “The Shape of Water,” “Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark,” and his Netflix anthology series “Cabinet of Curiosities.

While we haven’t seen the final version of the creature design, there is an expectation that it will be largely inspired by illustrations by late comic book artist Bernie Wrightson (“Swamp Thing”), who provided artwork for a modern publication version of Shelley’s novel that included an introduction from Stephen King.
