Michael Fassbender Looks Fully Recovered In These New 'Alien: Covenant' Photos

With a little bit of distance and a fair amount of reflection, I’ve decided we might’ve been too hard on Ridley Scott‘s “Prometheus.” While the film has some serious flaws, Scott’s attempt to tell a story of what happens when mankind meets its creators — only to discover that we’re an abomination in their eyes — is a darkly philosophical spin on your typical science-fiction movie. The film also benefits greatly from Michael Fassbender‘s David, a Pinocchio-like character who knows his programming will hurt others and lurks in the background of most scenes with an apologetic smile on his face.

So it’s good to see David — not to mention Guy Pearce‘s Peter Weyland — back in action in this new batch of photos (courtesy of Empire Magazine) from “Alien: Covenant.” The film may have its fair share of skeptics due to the disappointing outcome of “Prometheus,” but Scott seems to have taken those failures to heart, keeping the things that work in the last movie and moving on from what didn’t. Whatever the story holds, these photos prove that Scott has lost none of his flair for arresting visuals. “Alien: Covenant” may be good, it may be bad, but there’s no doubt in my mind that it’ll be the prettiest blockbuster movie of 2017.

Here’s the plot synopsis for the latest entry in the ‘Alien’ franchise:

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created, with “Alien: Covenant,” a new chapter in his groundbreaking “Alien” franchise. The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.

In addition to the returning Fassbender, “Alien: Covenant” will star Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, and Demián Bichir. The film will be distributed by 20th Century Fox and hit theaters on May 19, 2017.
