Warner Bros. has a new trailer for “Barbie” to state that movie’s case. Gerwig’s first film since 2019’s “Little Women” sees the writer/director take on the Mattel doll and its legacy in a decidedly un-Greta Gerwig way: a $100 million blockbuster loaded with A-listers.  Margot Robbie leads the cast as the titular fashion doll, with Ryan Gosling as her plastic beau Ken. And what’s Gerwig’s “Barbie” about? According to a new logline: After being expelled from Barbieland for being a less than perfect-looking doll, Barbie sets off for the human world to find true happiness.  So, expect a meta take on all things Barbie in this one.

While Robbie and Gosling headline the film, “Barbie” boasts several pairs of other Barbies and Kens.  Kate McKinnonIssa RaeEmma MackeyDua Lipa, and Sharon Rooney are just some of the Barbie variations in the upcoming movie. As for the Ken variants?  Simu LiuKingsley Ben-AdirNcuti GatwaJohn Cena, and Scott Evans are those. But “Barbie” boasts even more actors in its ensemble cast, including Will FerrellAmerica FerreraConor SwindellsMichael CeraEmerald FennellJamie DemetriouRhea Perlman, and Marisa Abela. And on top of those names, Helen Mirren provides a voiceover in the film.

“Barbie” isn’t solely the brainchild of Greta Gerwig. While Gerwig directs, she co-pens the film’s script with her husband Noah Baumbach. Robbie’s LuckyChap Entertainment played a crucial role in the film’s development, too. Other crew members of note for the blockbuster: cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto and composer Alexandre Desplat.

So will the massive star power of Gerwig’s film overwhelm Chris Nolan’s larger-than-life biopic this July and claim the title of “2023 Movie Of The Summer”? Find out when both films hit theaters on July 21. Watch the new trailer for “Barbie” below.
