'The Outpost' Trailer: Scott Eastwood, Caleb Landry Jones & Orlando Bloom Star In This Military Thriller

Following the events of 9/11, the US began military conflict in Afghanistan that would end up stretching the better part of two decades. What was meant to be a quick, decisive response to the terrorist attack on American soil turned into a years-long battle that seemingly had no end in sight. However, the political issues surrounding that era take a backseat to the bravery shown by a group of troops in the upcoming film, “The Outpost.”

As seen in the trailer for the film, “The Outpost” tells the incredible true story of the Battle of Kamdesh, the bloodiest American engagement of the Afghan War in 2009. The film follows Bravo Troop 3-61 CAV as they fight an overwhelming Taliban force in the mountainous terrain. “The Outpost” is based on the book by CNN’s Jake Tapper.

The military thriller stars Scott Eastwood, Caleb Landry Jones, Orlando Bloom, Jack Kesy, Taylor John Smith, and Milo Gibson. “The Outpost” is directed by Rod Lurie and written by the duo of Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson, who were nominated for a screenplay Oscar for their work on “The Fighter.” The new film marks Lurie’s first feature since the 2011 remake of “Straw Dogs.” Before that, he helmed feature films such as “The Contender” and “The Last Castle.”

“The Outpost” arrives in select theaters and VOD on July 3.

In this military thriller, based on The New York Times best-selling non-fiction book, The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor from CNN’s Jake Tapper, a tiny unit of U.S. soldiers, alone at the remote Combat Outpost Keating, located deep in the valley of three mountains in Afghanistan, battles to defend against an overwhelming force of Taliban fighters in a coordinated attack. The Battle of Kamdesh, as it was known, was the bloodiest American engagement of the Afghan War in 2009 and Bravo Troop 3-61 CAV became one of the most decorated units of the 19-year conflict.
