Rooney Mara & Jonah Hill To Join Joaquin Phoenix In Gus Van Sant's ‘Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far On Foot’

Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara seem to have a pretty good thing going. They broke hearts in Spike Jonze‘s “Her,” and they’ve recently been filming the upcoming Biblical drama “Mary Magdalene.” And it seems they’ve got along so well, they’re ready to work together yet again.

Variety reports that Mara and Jonah Hill are in talks to join Gus Van Sant‘s “Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far On Foot,” which has Phoenix in the lead role. The brewing biopic is based on the life and autobiography of John Callahan, who was paralyzed at the age of 21 and turned to cartooning, with his work appearing in the New Yorker, Playboy, and Penthouse (among others), and earning both acclaim and controversy. No word yet on Mara and Hill’s roles.

As exciting as this is — Phoenix, Mara and Hill in a film by Gus Van Sant — it’s still a bit of a way off. Hill will next be starring in “The Ballad Of Richard Jewell,” while Mara kicks off the new year filming Brady Corbet‘s “Vox Lux.” Still, this kind of talent will hopefully attract the financing to get this into production sooner rather than later. Fingers crossed.
