Sarah Shahi Lands Role Opposite Dwayne Johnson In 'Black Adam'

It’s rare nowadays to have a major comic book film almost on the verge of production but still not have a release date. Normally, Warner Bros, Disney, and other studios make sure to stake claim to a release date well before production is even considered. But with “Black Adam,” the film was originally set to be released in December 2021 but has now been pulled from the calendar due to WB’s constant reshuffling of its film slate due to COVID. However, that isn’t stopping production, as the film welcomes yet another actor to the cast of the superhero adventure.

According to Deadline, Sarah Shahi has been cast in a major role in “Black Adam.” The film, which stars Dwayne Johnson as the title character, is set to tell the story of the ancient god-like anti-hero that has ties to the recent “Shazam!” film. Think of him as the anti-Shazam, basically. Shahi joins a cast that also includes Noah Centineo and Aldis Hodge.

While her role isn’t made explicitly clear from the report, it does say that she is set to portray a university professor that is also the leader of a resistance force in Kahndaq. And if you want to maybe speculate a little, you can probably assume that she is going to play Isis. The character has a long history with the Shazam Family, as well as Wonder Woman. She is often seen as a teacher that is able to call upon the power of the goddess Isis, much in the same way that Billy Batson can call upon the power of Shazam. Shahi is probably best known for her roles in TV series such as “The L Word,” “Person of Interest,” “Life,” and “The Rookie.”

Again, it’s unclear when “Black Adam” is expected to arrive in theaters. With production ramping up, it’s less to do with when the film will be ready to be released versus when WB will find a spot for the film in a crowded marketplace. At this point, with “The Batman” moving to 2022, it’s likely that “Black Adam” will find its place sometime in the last half of 2022.
