Despite the end of “Stranger Things,” that won’t be the end of the franchise as a new animated series is on the way with “Stranger Things: Tales From ’85” on deck at Netflix, arriving in April ahead of other spinoffs in the works.
Hailing from showrunner Eric Robles and “Stranger Things” co-creators Matt and Ross Duffer, a teaser trailer for the animated project has made its way online. This new show is said to take place between the events of Season 2 and Season 3 (likely won’t have a massive impact on existing canon because of the setting within the timeline).
A brief logline for the animated series courtesy of Netflix:
During the winter of 1985. With the gate to the Upside Down closed, our heroes have returned to a normal routine of Dungeons & Dragons and snowball fights.
The voice cast has a crop of new actors playing the animated iterations of the “Stranger Things” characters (we have to assume the original cast wanted a true break from the franchise), with Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max, Luca Diaz as Mike, Elisha “EJ” Williams as Lucas, Braxton Quinney as Dustin, Benjamin Plessala as Will, Brett Gipson as Hopper, and Jeremy Jordan as Steve.
Others, such as Odessa A’zion (“Marty Supreme”), Janeane Garofalo (“Reality Bites”), and Lou Diamond Phillips (“Young Guns”), will also have roles in the new Hawkins adventure.
The Duffers and Hilary Leavitt are executive producing via Upside Down Pictures, along with Shawn Levy via 21 Laps, Dan Cohen, and Robles through Flying Bark Productions.
That new teaser trailer for “Stranger Things: Tales From ’85” can be viewed below, as the show makes a grand debut on April 23, exclusively on Netflix.
