There had been some question if “Scream 7” would even happen after the firing of star Melissa Barrera (Spyglass Media removing her over her social media posts in support of the children and civilians of Gaza/Palestine) and subsquent exit of co-star Jenna Ortega, the two playing sisters and becoming the modern face of the meta slasher franchise from Wes Craven that had been resurrected and updated by The Radio Silence team.
With that said, promotion for the horror flick is well underway and will feature a Super Bowl spot this weekend during the big football game (featuring the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots going head-to-head on Sunday), and Paramount Pictures has released it early.
Franchise screenwriter Kevin Williamson takes on directing duties (co-created “Scream” with Craven and taking over “Scream 7” after director Christopher Landon left the project) with a cast that features Neve Campbell back as legacy final girl, Sidney Prescott, after sitting on the sidelines for “Scream VI.” The rest of the actors include Courteney Cox, Isabel May, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Anna Camp, Joel McHale, Mckenna Grace, Michelle Randolph, Jimmy Tatro, Asa Germann, Celeste O’Connor, Sam Rechner, Ethan Embry, Tim Simons, and Mark Consuelos.
An official logline for the new film from Paramount:
When a new Ghostface killer emerges in the quiet town where Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) has built a new life, her darkest fears are realized as her daughter (Isabel May) becomes the next target. Determined to protect her family, Sidney must face the horrors of her past to put an end to the bloodshed once and for all.
You can watch that Super Bowl spot for “Scream 7” below, as the movie will be unleashed on February 27, and tickets go on sale on February 9. It remains to be seen if Sidney survives this latest encounter with Ghostface.
