The “Street Fighter” reboot movie from Legendary Entertainment and director Kitao Sakurai (“Bad Trip”) has found another actor to play a major character in the upcoming adaptation of the extremely popular arcade game from Capcom.
With that, Deadline is reporting that actress Callina Liang, who recently starred in Steven Soderbergh‘s “Presence,” has been tapped to for the beloved badass Chun-Li in the feature film remake.

She joins a group of previously announced actors such as Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, Jason Momoa, Roman Reigns, and Orville Peck (although, who is playing whom isn’t exactly clear). We are assuming that Koji was cast as the new cinematic version of Ryu, and Centineo could be playing his American pal/sparing partner, Ken.
Chun-Li is considered the third main protagonist of the games and adaptations, with the role previously being played by “Star Wars” alumni Ming-Na Wen in the original live-action movie from 1994 and then Kristin Kreuk in the mostly forgotten solo movie from 2009.
“Street Fighter” is a tournament fighter video game, being much more kid-friendly and cartoony than something like “Mortal Kombat.” However, plot details for the new movie are being kept under lock and key. We’re likely looking at a martial arts-centric actioner, and hopefully, the studio will give us more information down the road.
Legendary, the studio behind the “Dune” and MonsterVerse franchises, isn’t unfamiliar with video game adaptations, as they most recently were behind “A Minecraft Movie” (has nearly earned a billion dollars at the global box office) alongside previous efforts such as “Warcraft” and “Pokémon Detective Pikachu.”
Before the director switch-up, the film’s distributor, Sony Pictures, had slated the action pic’s release for March 20, 2026.
