Timothée Chalamet Does Shakespeare In First Look At Netflix's Upcoming Awards Contender 'The King'

Timothée Chalamet doesn’t star in bad films. Even at such a young age, the actor has found himself in the enviable position of being able to pick and choose his films. This has led Chalamet to really only lending his services to films that will clearly be up for awards consideration. Not a bad position to be in, as an actor, at all. So, this year, in addition to “Little Women,” Chalamet has a starring role in the awards contender “The King,” which is set to premiere at Venice.

And thanks to this morning’s announcement that David Michôd’s “The King” would premiere at Venice, we now have our first look at the Oscar-nominated actor in one of the biggest roles of his young career, playing Henry V in the upcoming Shakespearean adaptation. “The King” is said to combine William Shakespeare’s “Henry IV, Part 1,” “Henry IV, Part 2, and “Henry V” into one feature that follows the young Henry V, as he starts as a prince and inherits the throne as king when his father passes away.

“The King” is co-written by Michôd and Joel Edgerton. The latter of which joins Chalamet in the cast, playing Sir John Falstaff. But Edgerton isn’t the only high-profile co-star. The film also features Robert Pattinson, Sean Harris, Lily-Rose Depp, Thomasin McKenzie, and Ben Mendelsohn as King Henry IV.

Netflix is set to debut “The King” later this year, and as mentioned, it’ll join the likes of “The Laundromat,” “The Irishman,” and “Marriage Story,” among others, as the streaming services big awards hopefuls. Last year, Netflix began its awards domination with “Roma,” and this year, the streaming service seems poised to have an even bigger year, led by the young Chalamet.

That being said, we’ll know more about Netflix’s chances when the Venice International Film Festival begins August 28.
