When Julia Ducournau‘s last film, 2016’s “Raw,” premiered in the International Critics’ Week section of that year’s Cannes Film Festival, it generated massive amounts of buzz. That translated to a bump up to the main competition for her new film, “Titane,” and in the end, taking home the big best picture prize, aka the Palme d’Or.

As grotesque as “Raw” and its irrepressible appetites were, by all accounts, “Titane” is very weirder, more aggressive, bizarre, horrific, and transgressive, but most reviews (like ours) and synopses are vague to hold back the film’s many surprises.

Here’s the official (very-cryptic) synopsis from Cannes:
TITANE: A metal highly resistant to heat and corrosion, with high tensile strength alloys, often used in medical prostheses due to its pronounced biocompatibility.
“Titane” stars Vincent Lindon, Agathe Rousselle, Laïs Salameh, and Garance Marillier. Dominique Frot, Myriem Akkhddiou, and Rahim-Silvioli Mehdi round out the main cast.

“Titane” marks a reunion of Ducournau with cinematographer Ruben Impens, who worked with the director on “Raw.” Composer Jim Williams, best known for his work on four of Ben Wheatley‘s films, provides music for “Titane.”

Neon Films scooped up the film even before it premiered at Cannes, and the film is now slated for an October 1 release date. The film will appear next at the New York Film Festival before that. Watch the new red-band, aka NSFW trailer, below.
