Trent Reznor And Atticus Ross To Score Jonah Hill's Upcoming Directorial Debut 'Mid90s'

If you’ve seen the trailer for Jonah Hill’s upcoming directorial debut “mid90s,” you already know that Hill is shooting for a very distinct style for his film. The filming techniques, the use of mostly unknown actors, and the subject matter harken back to something like “Kids,” and less like the highly-polished films the actor is known for starring in. And adding to this distinct vision is Hill’s choice of composers for “mid90s” — Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.

That’s right, the duo behind the Oscar-winning score for “The Social Network,” as well as other critically-acclaimed work for films like “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” and “Gone Girl,” are bringing their skills to Hill’s coming-of-age skateboarding film, according to Film Music Reporter. Of course, there’s the added bonus that considering the film’s 1990s-era setting, Reznor is a pretty incredible fit. As the creative force behind Nine Inch Nails, Reznor helped define an era of heavy music that was popular during that time.

For those that don’t know, “mid90s” follows a young teenage, Stevie, as he spends his summer figuring out his life as he meets a group of skateboarders and gets involved in all sorts of hijinks, while also dealing with his home life.

“mid90s” isn’t the only upcoming project that Reznor and Ross have us excited for. In addition to Jonah Hill’s film, the musical pair are working with “It Comes at Night” director Trey Edward Shults on a new psychological thriller that is said to be paired to music, in the same way that “Baby Driver” was. The duo will synchronize their music with the actions on screen, as well as mixing in some contemporary songs.
