Don't Get Your Hopes Up, Idris Elba Says "There Hasn’t Been Any Talks" About Playing James Bond

It’s time for the semi-regular Who Is Going To Play James Bond update, which means another actor saying that despite the wild chatter, internet petitions, and vigils, they are not in the running at the moment for 007. “[It’s] the wildest rumor in the world… I keep saying if it were to happen it would be the will of a nation because there hasn’t been any talks between me and the studio about any of that,” he told Good Morning America. “But everywhere I go people want that to happen.”

So there you go. Elba joins Tom Hiddleston in crushing the hopes of fans everywhere, while until we hear otherwise, Jamie Bell appears to still be in the mix. Certainly, he’d be a unexpected choice, but if there’s been any constant in this franchise, particularly for the lead role, it’s been swerving left, while everyone else goes right.
