‘Baywatch’ Teaser: Stephen Amell Hits The Beach As Fox Revives The Lifeguard Phenomenon

Stephen Amell stars as Hobie Buchannon in Fox’s new ‘Baywatch’ reboot, which brings the lifeguard franchise back to TV in January 2027.

The red swimsuits are back, the beaches are crowded again, and yes, there is slow-motion running. Fox has released a new teaser for its upcoming “Baywatch” reboot, bringing the long-running lifeguard franchise back to television with Stephen Amell leading a new generation of beach patrol. The series is set to premiere on Fox in January 2027.

The new series is technically more a sequel than a remake. Amell stars as Hobie Buchannon, the now-grown son of Mitch Buchannon, the character played by David Hasselhoff in the original series. According to the official logline, Hobie is now a Baywatch captain whose life is upended when his daughter, Charlie Vale, played by Jessica Belkin, arrives eager to carry on the Buchannon family legacy.

The teaser keeps things pretty straightforward: beaches, red suits, rescue-ready lifeguards, and the return of the franchise’s most famous visual signature. Fox is not exactly trying to reinvent “Baywatch” as prestige TV, and honestly, that is probably the point. The original series was never subtle, but it was enormous: after an NBC cancellation, it became a first-run syndication phenomenon and ran for 11 seasons through 2001.

The ensemble also includes Hassie Harrison (“Yellowstone”), Shay Mitchell (“Pretty Little Liars,” “You”), newcomer Thaddeus LaGrone, TikTok star and actor Noah Beck, and model/reality personality Brooks Nader (“Sports Illustrated Swimsuit,” “Dancing with the Stars,” Hulu’s “Love Thy Nader”). On the legacy side, David Chokachi will reprise his original “Baywatch” role as Cody Madison, now the owner of The Shoreline, a bar-and-grill that serves as a lifeguard hangout. Michael Bergin and Kelly Packard are also set to guest star, returning as Jack “J.D.” Darius and April Giminski.

Behind the scenes, Matt Nix serves as showrunner and executive producer, with McG directing the premiere episode. Original creators Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, and Doug Schwartz are also among the executive producers, alongside Dante Di Loreto and Mike Horowitz.

The 2017 movie tried to turn “Baywatch” into an R-rated studio comedy with Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron. Still, Fox’s new version seems to be aiming closer to the original formula: sunny escapism, workplace drama, beach rescues, and a cast built for broad network appeal. Whether that works in 2027 is another question, but at least the teaser will be remembered.
