Isabelle Huppert Reteams With Benoît Jacquot For 'Eva'

Isabelle Huppert spent 2016 showing actresses half her age how it’s done. She kicked off the year anchoring every scene of Mia Hansen-Løve‘s ode to mid-life crisis “Things To Come,” wowed everyone at Cannes, and then earned immediate Oscar talk for her high-wire performance in Paul Verhoeven‘s boundary pushing “Elle.” And now Huppert will kick off 2017 by reuniting with an old friend.

Cineuropa reveals that she’ll reteam with Benoit Jacquot for “Eva.” The movie will mark Huppert’s sixth movie with the director (following “The Wings Of The Dove,” “The School Of Flesh,” “Keep It Quiet,” “The False Servant” and “Villa Amalia“) and seventh if you count “Return Of The Beloved,” which features co-writing credit by Jacquot. Their latest work is based on the book by James Hadley Chase about a playwright who encounters the titular, mysterious woman when he takes shelter in a chalet during a violent snowstorm.

Classic film fans might know that the material was previously brought to the big screen in Joseph Losey‘s 1962 film starring Jeanne Moreau, but we’ll intrigued to see what this new take offers. Filming on “Eva” begins in January, and I’d presume this is one to keep an eye out for on the 2018 festival circuit.
