March is a busy month for television. There’s an onslaught of new and returning series, including long-awaited seasons of “Outlander” and the latest from the HBO cringe-comedy “The Comeback.” March might be big for film in the interim.

There are two new series for Western fans from showrunner Taylor Sheridan, along with two new – albeit very opposite – seasons of a popular superhero series. There’s the latest from show creator Bill Lawrence of “nice” comedy. And for some star power, don’t miss the latest series starring the likes of Nicole Kidman, Elizabeth Moss, Riz Ahmed, and Rachel Weisz, all of this before even touching the many “honorable mentions,” which include an ongoing science-fiction favorite, the second season of a popular live-action adaptation, and more.
“American Classic”
Created by showrunners Michael Hoffman and Bob Martin, “American Classic” is a comedy following the life of a narcissistic Broadway star dealing with the fallout of a public meltdown. Returning home, he channels his energy into saving his family-run theater, choosing to direct and star in its newest production. Kevin Kline, Jon Tenney, and Laura Linney star.
Release Date: Season 1 premiered on March 1 on MGM+.
“Marshals”
Taylor Sheridan’s television Western cinematic universe continues to reign with the spinoff/sequel series “Y: Marshall.” Luke Grimes, Gil Birmingham, Mo Brings Plenty, and Brecken Merill reprise their roles alongside newcomers Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos, Tatanka Means, and Logan Marshall-Green. The series follows a former U.S. Navy SEAL who joins a specialized group of U.S. Marshals tasked with protecting Montana.
Release Date: Season 1 premiered on March 1 on CBS.
“Young Sherlock”
Director Guy Ritchie returns to familiar material with “Young Sherlock.” The latest interpretation of the iconic character takes the story to the master sleuth’s school days. Hero Fiennes Tiffin stars as the 19-year-old Sherlock Holmes, who finds himself caught in the crosshairs of a murder at Oxford, leading him to his first case. Zine Tseng, Dónal Finn, Joseph Fiennes, Max Irons, Natascha McElhone, and Colin Firth round out the cast.
Release Date: Season 1 premieres on Prime Video on March 4.
“Ted”
The prequel series “Ted” returns for its raunchy second season. Created and directed by Seth MacFarlane (who also voices the titular sentient teddy bear), the series looks back at the early days of Ted and John Bennett’s dynamic. Season two begins as John is entering his senior year of high school. Max Burkholder, Alanna Ubach, Scott Grimes, and Giorgia Whigham all return.
Release Date: Season 2 premieres March 5 on Peacock.
“Outlander”
The long-running, time-traveling romantic drama series “Outlander” returns for its eighth and final season. The series finds its protagonists, played by Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan, dealing with the knowledge that their daughter might have lived after believing she was stillborn in the 1740s. The story picks up during the Revolutionary War, with the Fraser family all in one place, trying to put the pieces together.
Release Date: Season 8 premieres March 6 on Starz.
