‘Andor’ Writer Beau Willimon Behind WB’s Epic-Sized ‘Game Of Thrones’ Prequel Movie Focusing On Aegon’s Conquest

There has been chatter of a “Game of Thrones” feature film for a while now, and we know who will be writing it, as it has revealed that Beau Willimon is tackling a “prequel” story. The new gestating movie will focus on Aegon I Targaryen, the infamous member of the House of the Dragon who was behind the conquest of six out of the seven kingdoms, leading to the creation of the Iron Throne made of the melted swords of the conquered armies of Westeros (becoming a symbol of the power of the dragon riders and a reminder of they gained it).

This report from THR mentions that there is also a series in the works about those events surrounding Aegon, and adds that the movie is expected to be on the scale of Denis Villeneuve‘s “Dune” movies, although a director isn’t being named at this time.

Willimon is quite a get for the “Game of Thrones” feature project after working with Tony Gilroy on the Emmy-winning “Star Wars” series “Andor” and was the showrunner on Netflix‘s acclaimed political thriller show, “House of Cards.”

However, the overall fate of the untitled “Game of Thrones” project is a bit of a question mark, and whether it will actually make it in front of cameras due to the upcoming merger between Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Skydance. In previous studio mergers, we’ve seen other high-profile projects get scrapped when new executives take over.

Another minor tidbit, Dexter Sol Ansell‘s Egg (Aegon IV) from “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” is named after the legendary Targaryen and goes on to become a great king. There is an expectation that the spinoff show could go beyond the three-season order.
