26-Minute Doc ‘The Force Of Sound’ Shows How The Sonic World Of ‘The Last Jedi’ Was Created

The home video release of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” may be coming packed with bonus features — 14 deleted scenes, audio commentary, a feature length documentary and more — but it will be missing one meaty extra: “The Force Of Sound: Creating Sounds In A Galaxy Far, Far Away.”

The half-hour documentary/news piece for ABC (which is owned by Disney, by the way) seems like the perfect complement for ‘The Last Jedi’ on home video, but for whatever byzantine, probably legal reasons, it won’t be there. However, the whole thing is online right now and it’s a truly fascinating, super nerdy look at how the foley artists at Lucasfilm create all that sonic texture we often take for granted. From the sound of the crystal foxes “fur” to the clangs of the Millennium Falcon, it’s pretty cool to see how it all comes together. Even more, this doc is Rian Johnson approved:

“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” hits digital on March 13th and lands on 4K UHD/Blu-ray on March 27th.
