Got a Tip?

Danny McBride To Write & Star In Remake Of Danish Comedy ‘Klovn,’ Todd Phillips To Produce

With “Eastbound & Down” heading into its series finale this weekend, Danny McBride will be waking up on Monday morning with the hit show over and an open calendar and canvas in front of him. But it looks like he’s not wasting any time in lining up something new, and it’s another project with big comic possibilities.

Deadline reports that McBride will write and star in a remake of the Danish film and TV series “Klovn” (“Clown“) for Warner Bros. with none other than Todd Phillips throwing his weight in as a producer. Originally a TV series and then turned into a film, the story follows Frank who must take care of his 13-year-old nephew Bo after his brother-in-law is injured in accident. This means going on an all-male canoe trip that had already been planned before the accident. This works out for Frank as he also has to prove to his pregnant girlfriend that he can be a worthwhile father. Frank recruits his buddy Casper to come along and pair try to find a way to ditch their responsibility and go to the Skanderborg Festival where booze and women await in what they call a “Tour De Pussy.” So yes, comparisons to “The Hangover” have been made and are probably accurate.

Of course, Phillips and McBride last paired up on “Due Date” where the actor had a great little role in one of the movie’s most memorable scenes (watch it here). This one is moving fast apparently, with McBride getting right to work on it. No word on a director yet, but with this duo, finding someone shouldn’t be too difficult. And if you want to see the original, Drafthouse Films will be dropping it into theaters this summer on July 27th.
