Dermot Mulroney & Sarah Hyland Also Come Aboard
Red-haired bombshell Christina Hendricks is best known for her twice Emmy-nominated portrayal of voluptuous secretary Joan Harris on AMC’s critically acclaimed series “Mad Men.” Her curves and talent are definitely popular as she is set to star in quite a few upcoming films, including The Weinstein Company’s comedy, “I Don’t Know How She Does It” starring opposite Sarah Jessica Parker and Pierce Brosnan, and “Drive,” directed by Cannes Film Festival 2011 Best Director winner Nicolas Winding Refn and featuring Ryan Gosling in the driver’s seat. Now she will pair up with fellow Emmy nominee Chris Colfer of “Glee” fame in his screenwriting debut, “Struck by Lightning.”
We are not yet sure what Hendricks’ role will be, but she will play alongside Sarah Hyland of the ABC comedy “Modern Family,” Allison Janney (“Juno” and the upcoming “The Help”) and Dermot Mulroney (“My Best Friend’s Wedding”, that film you have all viewed a million times on cable). Other cast members joining Colfer’s post-“Glee” adventure include Angela Kinsey, Allie Grant, Ashley Rickards, Polly Bergen, Brad Henke, Robbie Amell and Carter Jenkins.
The project will be directed by Brian Dannelly (“Saved!”) and Colfer is set to star as a teen who is struck and killed by lightning, telling the story in flashbacks of how he blackmailed other high school students to contribute to a literary magazine. Considering that “Saved!” also deals with beyond-the-grave redemption, Brian Dannelly is definitely the right man for the job. In a recent press release announcing the project, Dannelly said: “We’re so thrilled to begin filming this story that really captures the trials and tribulations of coming into your own. We’ve got a phenomenal cast on board and Chris’ script is so smart, fresh, and funny but also has such heart. I’m excited to help tell this coming-of-age story that I think will resonate with young audiences, and all of us who’ve survived adolescence.”
Colfer was recently unceremoniously dumped from “Glee” (he found via Twitter), the show that made him a household name, while we will continue to see Hendricks continue to play her sexy role on Season 5 of “Mad Men” that will air in January 2012. We are definitely excited to see how Hendricks and Colfer will translate their television success to the big screen. —Laura Vrabie
