– The Flaming Lips have contributed original music to “Summercamp!” Directed by Bradley Beesley and Sarah Price, Beesley is no stranger to the Lips, having already directed the Lips documentary, “The Fearless Freaks, plus sharing a co-directing credit with Coyne on the “U.F.O.s at the Zoo” DVD, A Lips song (that we’re too tired to trace) from Yoshimi is featured in the trailer. The film opens at New York City’s IFC Center on July 18, and will play in Milwaukee, Chicago, Boston, Portland, Oklahoma City (naturally), Lincoln, Los Angeles, and elsewhere thereafter.

– Everything gets a music documentary these days, doesn’t it? Though we can’t really argue with the subject matter of “Beautiful Noise” – a documentary on the British shoegazer movement of the early ’90s that feature introverted navel gazers juxtaposing pretty melodies with ear-piercing noise and the occasional dance beat or two. “It’s basically about the Cocteau Twins, the Jesus and Mary Chain, and My Bloody Valentine, and what an indelible impact they had on modern music,” director Eric Green said. Green went to the source and interviewed 47 subjects. Some of these names include My Bloody Valentine’s Kevin Shields and Debbie Googe, JAMC’s Jim Reid , and Cocteau Twins’ Robin Guthrie and Simon Raymonde, The Cure’s Robert Smith, Trent Reznor, Billy Corgan, members of Ride, Lush, Swervedriver, Curve, Primal Scream, producer Alan Moulder, Creation records nutcase Alan McGee and some guy who delivered the newspaper to members of the Pale Saints, plus the barber of Moose.
