Got a Tip?

Keanu Reeves, Jim Carrey & Jason Momoa Join Ana Lily Amirpour’s Cannibal Love Story ‘The Bad Batch’

Ana Lily Amirpour
Talk about a meteoric rise. Ana Lily Amirpour made a huge impression with 2014’s stylish vampire movie "A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night," but most importantly she caught the eye of Megan Ellison, who decided produce her next film “The Bad Batch.”

A dystopian love story set in a Texas wasteland, “The Bad Batch” is now cast. Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures, partnering with VICE, announced that Suki Waterhouse will play Arlen, Jason Momoa will play Miami Man, Diego Luna will play Jimmy, Keanu Reeves will play The Dream and Jim Carrey will play The Hermit. Production on the film begins in April around Los Angeles.

While details are a bit sparse, “The Bad Batch” is a love story set in a community of cannibals. In 2014, Amirpour won a $10,000 grant from Rooftop Films‘ Piper Heidsieck Feature Film grant to finish up the project, which was then described as "a highly twisted, unusual, romantic, and innovative movie set in a future dystopia. In a desert wasteland in Texas, a muscled cannibal breaks one important rule: don’t play with your food. ‘The Bad Batch’ is a savage love story, like a psychedelic ‘Road Warrior,’ inspired by films like ‘El Topo’ and ‘Wild At Heart.’ Shot in bold saturated hues and stylings of the ’80s & ’90s, the film will also feature a wicked techno & western-laced soundtrack.’ ” If that doesn’t get your heart racing with excitement, you’re dead inside.

“A Girl Walks Home Alone At Nightmade many of Best of 2014 Year End lists (including our Directors To Watch feature) and for good reason; it’s a moody, striking piece of cinema. Most anticipated 2016? Ellison and co. will apparently be selling the movie at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival, so maybe they’ll show some kind of teaser reel.
