Here’s something you don’t see every day. We are here to bring you a trailer for a Gerard Butler film, titled “The Vanishing,” that doesn’t look anything like the recent string of action movie horribleness the actor is mostly known for (even though I still think “Den of Thieves” is criminally underrated schlock). There isn’t even one explosion to be found. Instead, what you have is a quick glimpse at a psychological thriller, with a hint of action, that looks to actually be…interesting. Wait, this can’t be right.
Alas, in the new trailer for “The Vanishing,” we are introduced to three lighthouse keepers, one of which is the dashing action star Butler, as they begin their watch on a remote island. Their peaceful life gets thrown into chaos when a man washed up to shore with a mysterious trunk. After discovering the contents of the trunk, the three men realize that there will be more people coming to locate the missing parcel. And yes, that’s exactly what happens.
“The Vanishing” stars Butler alongside Peter Mullan and Connor Swindells. The film is directed by Kristoffer Nyholm, who is probably best known for his television work on series such as “Taboo,” “The Killing,” and “The Enfield Haunting.”
Saban Films is releasing “The Vanishing” in theaters and VOD on January 4, 2019.
Here’s the synopsis:
On an uninhabited island 20 miles from the rugged Scottish coast, three lighthouse keepers arrive for their 6 week shift. As they settle into their normal quiet routine, something unexpected, potentially life-changing occurs – they stumble upon gold. What follows is a tense battle for survival, fed by isolation, paranoia and greed, leading three honest men down a path to destruction.
