The term “fake news” has been used on a daily basis for the last three years thanks to President Donald Trump and his insistence that anything that is reported that seems to go against what he says (whether factual or not) must be wrong. This term has led to a huge distrust in the media, and numerous instances where the President has seemingly threatened or jokingly alluded to violence against the media. But at a recent conference at one of Trump’s resorts, where a group was drumming up support for the President, a video was shown that took the White House’s distaste for the media into a much darker realm, thanks to the internet’s love affair with memes.
Over the weekend, the group American Priority was holding a three-day conference featuring some major Conservative voices talking about the state of the world and, of course, support for Donald Trump. And during that event, during multiple instances, a video was shown that mashed up an incredibly violent scene from Matthew Vaughn’s “Kingsman” and Donald Trump’s face as he viciously murders and maims various media outlets and political opponents.
In the video (which you can watch below), it’s clear that all someone did was superimpose pictures of Donald Trump over Colin Firth’s head during the infamous church massacre scene from the first ‘Kingsman’ film, and had the various victims be replaced with media outlets and political adversaries of Donald Trump. Obviously, a video showing the President of the United States murdering members of media and real-life opponents is disgusting and horrifying.
“Content was submitted by third parties and was not associated with or endorsed by the conference in any official capacity,” said the event’s organizer, Alex Phillips (via the New York Times). “American Priority rejects all political violence and aims to promote a healthy dialogue about the preservation of free speech. This matter is under review.”
A spokesperson for Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign, Tim Murtaugh, said, “That video was not produced by the campaign, and we do not condone violence.”
As mentioned, the video shows Trump shooting various media outlets such as Huffington Post, Slate, Vice, Vox, CNN, and others while he also murders folks such as now-deceased political opponent Sen. John McCain, who he stabs in the neck. Obviously, if you’ve seen “Kingsman,” you know the scene that is in question. It’s one of the most talked-about moments in the entire film and for many, is a highlight. But adding real-world faces and context makes it significantly more troubling.
