Apple TV and Apple Studios have made some great creative decisions over the years. Tonight, they got burned. Just two and a half years after the streamer officially canceled the parody musical series, “Schmigadoon!” won Best Musical at the 2026 Tony Awards. In fact, it won four Tony Awards, including Best Book of a Musical and Best Score, both for creator Cinco Paul, and Best Orchestrations for Doug Besterman and Mike Morris.

Best Play went to “Liberation,” its only win, while “Arthur Miller’s Death of. Salesman” took Best Revival of a Play and five other Tonys including Best Direction of a Play (Joe Mantello, his third win)Best Actress in a Featured Role in a Play (Laurie Metcalf, also her third win) Scenic Design of a Play (Chloe Lamford), Lighting Design of a Play (Jack Knowles), and Sound Design of a Play (Mikaal Sulaiman).
“Ragtime” took Best Revival of a Musical as well as Best Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical (Cassie Levy), Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical (Joshua Henry), and Sound Design for a Musical (Kai Harda). “Cats: The Jellicle Ball” took home three trophies, including Best Costume Design, which went to Qween Jean, the first openly Transgender winner in Tony Award history.
Among the notable acting wins were John Lithgow taking his third Tony over 53 years in the Best Leading Actor in a Play for “Giant,” Lesley Manville winning her first Tony for Best Actress in a Leading Role in a Play for “Oedipus,” and one-time Hollywood “it boy” Alden Ehrenreich winning Best Featured Actor in a Play for “Becky Shaw.”
The ceremony was hosted by Pink, who performed a “Leading Lady” version of “Lady Marmalade with a plethora of unexpected guest stars including four-time Tony Award host Neil Patrick Harris, Megan the Stallion, Lea Michelle, and nominees such as June Squibb and Soshana Bean. The new lyrics were written by Oscar Original Song winners Pasek & Paul and Mark Sonnenblick, who won this year for “Golden.”
