‘Human Vapor’ Main Trailer: Netflix’s Sci-Fi Crime Thriller Series From ‘Train To Busan’ Creator Features A Killer Transforming Into Gaseous Form

Netflix is behind a Japanese/South Korean series remake of the Toho supernatural thriller “Human Vapor,” hailing from the director of “Train To Busan” and “The Colony” as one-half of the creative force on the show, with a cast that features Shun Oguri, Yu Aoi, Suzu Hirose, Kento Hayashi, UTA, and Yutaka Takenouchi. If you’re unaware of the 1960 original, it was directed by Ishiro Honda and was penned by Takeshi Kimura.

The horrific pitch is what happens when a ruthless killer has the ability to evade authorities by transforming from a regular, solid human being into a gaseous form? That adds an extra level of spookiness for a thriller helmed by Shinzo Katayama with Yeon Sang-ho and Ryu Yong-jae co-writing the streaming series.

An official synopsis via Netflix:

The world recoils in shock when a person suddenly swells and explodes on live television. The culprit behind this unprecedented murder is the “Human Vapor” — a man who can transform his body into gas and slip through any barrier. He announces his killings in advance and carries them out, seemingly mocking the authorities as they struggle to close in on him. With each new incident, he corrodes society with a formless, pervasive fear.

Sokichi Onoda and Yoomin Hailey Yang are the producers on the show, as Akihiro Yamauchi is exec-producing with Toho Studios, and WOWPOINT is also participating. Another hyped element here is that “Human Vapor” boasts the same Oscar-winning VFX team behind “Godzilla Minus One” and the upcoming sequel, “Godzilla Minus Zero,” being unleashed in US theaters on November 6, 2026, as the next chapter sees the King of Monsters make his way to New York City.
