Anthony Mackie is poised to have a big 2025. Not only is he the star of “Captain America: Brave New World,” which introduces his new version of Captain America on the big screen, but he’s also set to release the second season of his hit Peacock show, “Twisted Metal.” And it was none other than Harrison Ford, on the set of ‘Brave New World,’ who really treated him like a bonafide movie star.
Speaking in an upcoming episode of The Playlist’s “The Discourse” podcast, Anthony Mackie talked about his upcoming film, “Elevation.” However, he also teased both “Captain America: Brave New World” and “Twisted Metal” Season 2. When it came to his long-awaited ‘Cap’ film, Mackie talked about sharing the screen with Harrison Ford, an iconic actor for decades. According to Mackie, even though he’s a household name, Ford really did treat the younger actor as the real star of ‘Brave New World.’
“What was really interesting and it shows the nature and the beauty of Harrison Ford – when he got to set, he pulled me aside and he was like, ‘Hey kid, this is your movie. I’m here to support you. And I’m here to make sure after this movie comes out, everyone knows your name,’” explained Mackie. “And there are a lot of people on his level that would not do that. There are a lot of people at his scale of work who would not do that. But from the first day he was on set till the last day, when we wrapped, he literally treated me like I was number one. He literally let me have the set and literally walked beside me every day and showed me the respect that people would.”
He continued, “You know, it’s still Harrison Ford. Nobody’s like, ‘Hey Harrison, get out of the way. We need Anthony,’ but he made it very clear that I was number one on the call sheet. And because of that, everybody else fell in line. So I have nothing but appreciation and admiration for him – for the way he handled himself and the way he handled the set.”
As for “Twisted Metal” Season 2, Mackie didn’t tease any plot specifics for what to happen. However, he did tease that the season is going to “blow you a new asshole.” Yes, you read that right.
“We wrapped [‘Twisted Metal’ Season 2] yesterday and I’m gonna tell you this – I’m so excited,” said Mackie. “Listen, if you love Season 1, Season 2 is going to blow you a new asshole. You can quote me on that. That’s true John Doe fashion. Season 2 is going to blow you a new asshole.”
You can hear this discussion and much more when “The Discourse” episode drops soon. And while both of those projects aren’t slated to release until 2025, you can see Mackie sooner than that in the new film “Elevation.”
