“Pluribus,” the new Apple TV+ series created by Vince Gilligan (“Breaking Bad,” “Better Call Saul”) may be one of the most hotly anticipated shows coming this fall. The premise follows best-selling author Carol Sturka (Rhea Seehorn) as she tours through Albuquerque, New Mexico, on a book tour. A mysterious virus then sweeps across the city, leaving everyone except her happy and content. It’s a strange idea that Gilligan says he had while he was working on “Better Call Saul.”
“During our lunch breaks, I would take long walks around the neighborhood near our offices. My mind would wander, and I got interested in the idea of a world in which everyone was nice,” Gilligan says. “There was no way you could insult them. There was no way you could hurt their feelings. But they would do anything and everything for you. “I didn’t know what it meant,” he says of the idea, quipping, “I’m still not sure exactly what it means.”
The sci-fi series is Gilligan’s first in the genre since “The X-Files,” and is expected to be a big hit for Apple TV+.
