There were several Oscar wins expected at the 2026 Academy Awards. One of them was for Best Actress, whereJessie Buckley kept her undefeated streak this season alive. The Irish actress triumphed over a stellar class of nominees: Rose Byrne (“If I Had Legs I’d Kick You”), Renate Reinsve (“Sentimental Value”), Kate Hudson (“Song Sung Blue”), and two-time Oscar winner Emma Stone (“Bugonia”).
The only competitive award Buckley lost for “Hamnet” was the Gotham Award for Outstanding Lead Performance. That award went to “My Father’s Shadow” star Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù, who took the early prize among a field of 10 nominees.
Buckley was previously nominated in the Supporting Actress category in 2022 for Maggie Gyllenhaal’s “The Lost Daughter.” That being said, she’s been in Oscar’s vicinity for years. She appeared alongside another Best Actress winner, Renee Zellweger, in “Judy” and was part of the ensemble of Best Picture nominee “Women Talking.”
Other film credits include “Wicked Little Letters,” “I’m Thinking of Ending Things,” “The Courier,” “Wild Rose,” and “Fingernails.” Her television credits include “Fargo” season 4, “Chernobyl,” and “Taboo.”
She currently stars in Gyllenhaal’s follow-up, “The Bride,” now in theaters.
