Got a Tip?

Lars Von Trier Planning To Direct An Action Movie

Lars von Trier Bryce Dallas Howard Manderlay

With Lars von Trier keeping his word about no longer speaking to the press, it’s been left to his associates to tease his future plans. Last week, Danish filmmaker Kristian Levring (“The Salvation,” review here) revealed that von Trier was already at work on a horror script, tentatively titled “Detroit.” And it seems the director has yet another project brewing somewhere in the background.

Speaking with Screen Daily, producer Peter Aalbaek Jensen revealed, “He is talking about making a Trier version of an action movie.” Of course, any genre in the hands of von Trier gets reinterpreted into something distinctly his own, and so obviously, the idea of the director taking on the tropes of the action genre is potentially very, very exciting. But, unfortunately, this is all the details about the project until now.

As for what von Trier will tackle next, we’ll just have to wait and see. The director’s cuts of both parts of “Nymphomaniac” are presumably on the way in some fashion, and his early films are being restored for what we’d guess will be some kind of reissue. But hey, if “Die Hard 6” needs a director, von Trier might just be the man for the job.
