So, we’re in that quiet period of the awards season where the nominations are in, and the campaigns start making more measured moves as the Academy gets ready to vote on the Oscars. But with multiplexes mostly filled with the stuff studios would like to forget they financed, now is a good time to dive really deeply into the films and careers of some of this year’s nominees. The Walker Art Center has posted their lengthy, in depth and fascinating two hour talk with Steven McQueen, that took place last November. Led by Stuart Comer, the new chief curator of media and performance art at the Museum of Modern Art, it’s discussion that spans not only “12 Years A Slave” and McQueen’s films, but also his work in the contemporary art world that first got him noticed. It’s a pretty great talk, with McQueen providing great insight into his own work and approach.
