While summer is usually the playground of all things big, expensive and explosion-y, studios in recent years have also found a receptive audience for R-rated laughs. Of course, there’s “The Hangover” franchise which did it three times, and this summer saw Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock go restricted with “The Heat.” Now as the season draws closer to an end, one more is coming and it’s not for the kiddies.
A brand new 3-minute red band spot has arrived for “We’re The Millers,” which hopefully isn’t just a compendium of all the best parts of the movie. Jason Sudeikis and Jennifer Aniston lead the flick with the former playing a small time pot dealer who winds up in major debt to his supplier. The solution? One big score that will require bringing in a haul of ganja from Mexico. But to do so, he’ll cross the border under the guise of a family man, rounding up a gang of misfits to pose as his wife and kids. Funny concept for sure, but does the execution deliver? There are chuckles here to be sure and if it’s at the very least a pleasant diversion, we suspect it’ll meet its modest ambitions.
