'Age Out' Trailer: Tye Sheridan & Imogen Poots Star In This Harrowing Drama From Director AJ Edwards

You wouldn’t be wrong when watching the trailer for “Age Out” and noticing a bit of a Terrence Malick vibe. That would be because the filmmaker, AJ Edwards, is actually a bit of a Malick protege, having worked behind-the-scenes on films such as “The Tree of Life,” “Knight of Cups,” and “The New World.” But with “Age Out,” Edwards is branching off, attempting to do his own film.

As seen in the trailer for “Age Out,” which used to be titled “Friday’s Child” when it premiered at the 2018 SXSW Film Festival, the story follows a young teen that is emancipated from the foster system and now has to figure out how to make a life of his own, without anyone’s support. The film carries a distinct style, with an obvious artistic flourish to how it was filmed and the subdued acting on display. This helps elevate what could be seen as a fairly banal premise into something that could be pretty special.

“Age Out” is written and directed by Edwards. He previously wrote and directed the 2014 film, “The Better Angels,” which starred Jason Clarke, Diane Kruger, and Brit Marling. This new film, however, stars up-and-comers Tye Sheridan, Imogen Poots, and Caleb Landry-Jones, alongside Jeffrey Wright.

As mentioned, the film has been in limbo since its 2018 premiere but is finally arriving in theaters courtesy of Gravitas Ventures.

“Age Out” is set to arrive in theaters on November 22.

Here’s the brief synopsis:

Fresh out of foster care at age 18, a young drifter turns to petty crime to survive, and discovers an impossible love in an unlikely friend.
