Today, we learned about three movies that will be screening at the 51st edition of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF 2026), including Siân Heder‘s (“CODA”) next film, “Being Heumann,” which is going to debut on opening night. The other two features will be “Prima Facie,” from British director Susanna White, a legal drama starring Cynthia Erivo (“Wicked”), and “The Assassin(s)” from Korean auteur Hur Jin-ho.

A cast assembled for “Being Heumann” features Ruth Madeley, Mark Ruffalo, Dylan O’Brien, Madeleine Delp, Rob Delaney, Ray Fisher, and more. David Permut, Heder, John W. Beach, Kevin Cleary, and Kevin J. Walsh are set as producers on the project. The high-profile pic at Apple Studios (that avoided making a debut at the Cannes Film Festival) will focus “on Heumann (Madeley) as she leads around a hundred disabled people in a 28-day sit-in at the San Francisco Federal Building in 1977. The protestors vow to stay put until the government enforces Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, requiring accessibility for all federal spaces.”
When it comes to Erivo/White’s “Prima Facie,” it is an adaptation of the Suzie Miller play. The drama “follows Tessa on her journey from a brash, young lawyer who takes pride in successfully defending individuals accused of sexual assault. Tessa’s view of the British legal system changes after she is sexually assaulted by a colleague and goes through the court process herself.” White is best known for her directorial work on “Our Kind of Traitor,” “Woman Walks Ahead,” “Generation Kill,” “The Duce,” and the “Star Wars” series “Andor.” Erivo’s co-stars in “Prima Facie” feature Daniel Ings, Simon Russell Beale, Elizabeth Dulau, Noma Dumezweni, Toheeb Jimoh, Harry Treadway, Sarah Junillon, and Elliot Levey.
Last but not least, “The Assassin(s)” starring Yoo Hae-jin, Park Hae-il, and Lee Min-ho is going to be “a mystery thriller set against the backdrop of the 1974 attempted assassination of Korean president Park Chung-hee.” Previous films that debuted at TIIF from the acclaimed filmmaker included “A Normal Family,” “Dangerous Liaisons,” and “April Snow.”
TIFF 2026 will take place from September 10 to 20 (info on this trio of pictures coming from Deadline and THR), and we’ll also see the inaugural TIFF: The Market (a place where film projects will be looking for financing and distribution partnerships). We’ll be posting the full festival lineup when that announcement is made in the coming weeks.
