Ben Affleck Wants A “Cool Way To Segue Out” Of The DCEU

Since the critical fallout of “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice,” Ben Affleck has retained a tenuous relationship with DC Films. Sometimes he takes the position that there’s no other role he’d rather be playing, while at other times it seems like he already has one foot out of the door. What’s becoming clear is that Affleck’s time wearing the cowl is probably coming to an end sooner rather than later, and in fact, the actor seems to already be thinking of how he can bow out.

USA Today caught up with reluctant superhero, and perhaps more distinctly than ever, Affleck has revealed his time wearing the cape is limited.

“You don’t do it forever, so I want to find a graceful and cool way to segue out of it,” he said about playing Batman.

At one time set to co-write and direct a standalone movie, those plans have changed, with Matt Reeves coming in fresh off two bold ‘Planet Of The Apes‘ movies, and determined to do his own thing. Affleck’s involvement with whatever Reeves is cooking up remains in question, but he says it’s “something I’m contemplating.”

Again, Affleck is doing everything but committing to more DC Films, at least in public. However, he does see the potential in the franchise, and perhaps he’s being coy, hoping that DC Films will finally give him material worthy of his talent and the character.

“There’s a lot of stuff going on in the world, from natural to man-made disasters, and it’s really scary. Part of the appeal of this genre is wish fulfillment: Wouldn’t it be nice if there was somebody who can save us from all this, save us from ourselves, save us from the consequences of our actions and save us from people who are evil?” he asked rhetorically.

Affleck’s Batman tries to save the world in “Justice League” this Friday, but will it be the last time he suits up? Time will tell.
